COMPETITIVE TEAM OPPORTUNITIES:

Olds Minor Soccer is exploring the opportunity to offer competitive (Tier 3) teams for the 2026 Outdoor Season in partnership with Central Alberta Soccer Association (CASA).

We are currently offering Competitive Teams for the following age groups:

  • U9 (development)
    • Game Format as per Canada Soccer guidelines: 5v5
  • U11 Tier 3
    • Game Format as per Canada Soccer guidelines: 7v7
  • U13 Tier 3
    • Game Format as per Canada Soccer guidelines: 9v9
  • U15 Tier 3
    • Game Format as per Canada Soccer guidelines: 11v11

The formation of competitive teams is not guaranteed and will depend on:

  • Sufficient player interest (will be determined by tryout registration numbers)
  • Availability of qualified coaches
  • Confirmation of league structure and participating teams within CASA

Families should understand that registering interest does not automatically guarantee placement on a competitive team. Tryouts will be hosted with players selected.

Scheduling Overview:

Competitive team training sessions and games will generally follow the schedule below:

  • U9 Development: Monday or Wednesday - 6:30 PM start
  • U11 Tier 3: Tuesday / Thursday - 7:00 PM start
  • U13 Tier 3: Monday / Wednesday - 7:00 PM start

Please note that specific game dates and times may vary based on league scheduling through CASA, and occasional adjustments may be required throughout the season.

What Competitive Soccer Looks Like:

If formed, Competitive Teams would:

  • Participate in CASA league play (U11, U13, U15 - U9 is to be determined, or they will play under Big Country Soccer’s league)
  • Play approximately 8 league games during the outdoor season
  • Compete against clubs such as Penhold, Sylvan Lake, Lacombe, Ponoka, Rocky Mountain House, Bentley, and others (to be finalized once league is established).
  • Have a mix of home games (hosted in Olds) and away games
  • Occasionally play games at neutral “meet-in-the-middle” locations to reduce travel (anywhere over 1.5 hours of travel will meet in the middle)

Games are scheduled primarily on weekdays, with scheduling flexibility approved through CASA when required.

Fees:
Players will receive a keepsake soccer kit (jersey, shorts, and socks) and will have weekly practices (in Olds) and weekly league games.

    • U9 Competitive $175 (will play in CASA league).
    • U11 Tier 3: $325
    • U13 Tier 3: $335
    • U15 Tier 3: $345

  • $25 Non-Refundable Tryout Fee not included; covers participation in both try-out sessions on March 7 and March 14, 2026.
  • Any other expenses, including expenses related to tournaments, travel and/or accommodations, are not included.

Tryout Structure:

Teams will be formed via tryouts which will take place at the Zion Church Gymnasium location off Hwy 582 in Didsbury, AB.  There will be 2 tryouts per team level (U11, U13, and U15).

  • Tryouts will take place:
    • 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026
    • 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026

Players are encouraged to attend both tryout sessions, but must make a minimum of one date.

How to Register:

Additional Information:

  • Players selected for a Competitive Team will play only on that team for the season and will not participate on a regular season team.

Important Notes (applies to all of the above):

  1. Any registrations that are accepted and processed after the regular season registration closing date of April 5, 2026 will be subject to a $30 late fee.
  2. Any approved refunds (for medical reasons, accompanied by a Doctor's note) will be charged a $15 processing fee.
  3. All players within the Big Country Soccer Association (U13, U15, and U17/19) will be required to provide a $100 jersey bond. This must be in the form of a pre-filled credit card form or a post-dated cheque which will be destroyed at the end of the season upon return of the player's jersey in good, clean, and reusable condition. Jersey bonds must be provided prior to a player receiving their jersey. There will be no exceptions to this policy. (This does NOT apply to Competitive Teams, as their jersey is provided as a keepsake, included within their associated fees).
