PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 24, 2026:

We need your help.

Olds Minor Soccer Club is actively seeking new volunteers to help keep soccer thriving in our community and ensure the club can continue providing opportunities for local youth.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is coming up:

Wednesday, November 4, 2026
7:00-8:00 p.m.
Jean’s Place, Community Connection Centre, Olds

This Is Urgent: Without a Board, There Is No Soccer - This is NO JOKE

We are at a critical point.

For years, members of our board have continued volunteering even after their own children have aged out of the program, simply because they wanted to help keep soccer going in our community. Many of our current volunteers have given years of their time to the club.

It’s time for others to step up.

We currently have more than 300 children participating in our programs, and only six people are doing the work to keep the club running. At this AGM, two more of those volunteers are stepping down. That leaves just four people to do the work required to operate a soccer club serving more than 300 kids.

That isn't fair to those volunteers, and it simply isn't feasible.

We need new people to step forward. Without additional volunteers, the reality is that our programs will either have to be reduced or, in some cases, may not be able to run at all.

This isn't about asking one person to take everything on. We need a team of people willing to share the work and help keep soccer available in our community.

We’re Looking for New Leaders

While all board positions are open for nomination, we are particularly looking for volunteers for the following roles:

President
Provides overall leadership for the club, chairs board meetings, works with the board to set priorities, and serves as a primary point of contact for the club. Experience in this role is necessary. You must have some background knowledge of operating a business, and/or having served on a board of directors previously.

Vice President
Supports the President and board, helps oversee club operations including the registration process, and steps into the President’s role when needed. This role assists in much of the administrative processes of the club. Typically, this role eventually transitions into the President role upon its term renewal (if the current President steps down).

U11-U19 Coordinator
Oversees the older age groups, including team formations, initial communication with families and coaches, and coordination of league-related requirements. In 2026, there were three U11, two U13 and one U15 team in these age groups.

Competitive Teams Coordinator
Helps organize the club’s competitive teams, including player evaluations, team formations, league requirements, scheduling and communication with competitive coaches and families. In 2026, there was one U9, one U11 and one U13 team in these age groups.

Social Media / Communications Coordinator
Helps keep families and the community informed through social media and website updates.

Directors at Large
Support the board with various club activities and decisions. This is a great way to get involved without taking on one of the primary coordinator positions. Directors can help with supporting the other roles, coordinating our annual wrap-up BBQ, team photo schedules and dates, and so forth.

You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

The current board has worked hard to build a strong foundation for the club, including policies, procedures, systems and resources to help make the transition easier.

Our board generally meets once a month during our busiest season, January through June. Outside of that period, the meeting schedule slows considerably. In August, the board works indirectly with the Indoor Coordinator to help plan and organize the upcoming indoor season.

We also receive great support from our governing organization, Big Country Soccer Association, so new board members are not expected to figure everything out on their own.

You are not starting from scratch. There is an established framework, resources and support in place. What we need now is people willing to step forward and share the responsibility.

Please Don’t Wait Until the AGM

If you have ever thought about getting involved, now is the time.

Please reach out to us at omscpresident@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about a position or simply want to understand what is involved.

You do not need to commit before talking to us. We would much rather have a conversation with you now, answer your questions and start putting a plan together for the next board.

We have more than 300 kids counting on this club, and we need your help to keep soccer going in Olds.

With appreciation,

Olds Minor Soccer Club Board
